Because a measurement is pointless without the unit. How would you feel if someone offered to pay you 25 per hour and then, after a day 's slog, they told you it was 25 cents an hour? If you had assumed 25 dollars that was your own fault!

Or you paid a 70 centilitres bottle of wine and you were given a 70 microlitres!

Because measurements without units are totally meaningless. I can offer you 10 lots of cola for 50. I could mean 10 millilitres (a large sip) for £50 or 10 litres (10 large bottles) for 50 pence. One is a good deal the other is not. But if there are no units you will have no clue.

Measurements must be accompanied by appropriate units to ensure substances do not get mixed or used incorrectly. If they would get used incorrectly, accidents in the lab could occur.

You've gotta have units to know how much it is that you've got of whatever it is that you're measuring. Otherwise, how'd you know when you have one or more of whatever it is?
