Any system which consumes "intake" - be it an animal's digestion or a car's engine - must either use that intake totally, or dispose of that part of the intake which is not used. If the unused portion is not disposed of the system will clog as this 'waste' accumulates. If you block a car's exhaust pipe, the engine will soon stop as the waste gases have nowhere to go. If an animal were not able to excrete its waste products then its bladder and its bowels would swell up continually to try to store the waste. Eventually, were there no limit to how big these could grow to, the animal would be unable to move.
