A monitor is first and foremost an Output Device because it displays information already held in the computer. Touchscreen monitors that allow you to input information or to use navigational features such as menus, icons and so on are also Input Devices. Another example of a device that is both an input and output device is a joystick with Force Feedback technology.

∙ 10y agoA monitor would be considered an input device. The monitor receives a signal from the video card but does not send a signal back. Therefore it is only receiving signals making it an input device. Similar to an MP3 player's headphones. The MP3 player outputs music to the headphones. The headphones receive the music but do not send a signal back to the MP3 player making them an input device.

∙ 7y agoIt takes data from a computer and displays it. So the data is coming out from the computer to the monitor and then out to us when we see it. Some monitors can be used to input data, like touch screens, so they are both output and input devices.

∙ 7y agoA monitor is an output device. It takes information from the computer and displays it to the user. A keyboard, on the other hand, is an input device and delivers data from the user and to the computer. So if something goes into a computer, it is input, and if it comes out of a computer, like to a monitor or printer, it is output.
