Bread from heaven is called manna. According to the Bible, manna was a miraculous food that God provided to the Israelites during their journey in the desert. It sustained them and gave them nourishment during their time in the wilderness.

The name Manhattan derives from the word Manna-hata, as written in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson's yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon).[12] A 1610 map depicts the name as Manna-hata, twice, on both the west and east sides of the Mauritius River (later named the Hudson River). The word "Manhattan" has been translated as "island of many hills" from theLenape language.[13]
I can only answer this from the perspective of what is written in the bible...the true word of God. God told Moses, who was the leader of the Israelites that escaped pharoah, many times to strike a stone with his staff and water would suddenly come forth. When the Israelites began grumbling that they should have stayed in Egypt where at least they had food to eat, God sent them quail in the evening & manna in the morning. I'm sorry, I am not clear if the quail continued, but I do know that the bible says that for forty years they had manna. It says that manna was "bread from heaven" and it was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers of honey. They could bake it or boil it and collected it six days a week. God told them to only collect as much as they could eat that day and if they collected more they found it full of maggots and rotted. God told them to collect double on the sixth day and rest on the seventh. If they did this, they found that it was still good on the seventh day. I hope this helps....you can read about this in the 16th chapter of Exodus.
