"Scissors" is singular when you are talking about one and plural when you are talking about more than one.

My theory is that a single pair of scissors consists of two pieces joined together, so the word "scissors" originally got an "s" at the end because of this.

(Something similar happened, I suspect, with "trousers" and "pants")

"My scissors is blunt" might be technically correct for some English speakers, but is off-putting to most listeners because subject words ending with "s" usually require a plural form of the following verb such as "are". To avoid this most Americans and Australians, in my experience, usually say something like "My pair of... is" when they mean only one.

Nevertheless, to say someone was caught in a scissors during a Wrestling match sounds okay to almost everyone.
