Why is the devil called angel of light?

the question itself is highly erratic. Devil is never called the Angel of light. In king James version, it is given in

2Corinthans 11:14 as:-

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

To make you understand what does this mean let me tell you the same verse in contemporary English version:

2Corinthans 11:14:-

"And it is no wonder. Even Satan tries to make himself look like an angel of light."

Satan is never or is called Angel of light. The angel of light is the Holy Spirit. Satan could even Impersonate and pretend like Holy spirit.Satan himself (transformed) puts on the fairest appearances or Simply he will disguise as Angel of light. and rest what happens we all know.. He inspires false pastors, Leads a false church, promotes false doctrine etc.. etc..

I agree completely with the answer already posted, but I think it requires a little more of explanation.

I think is useful , in order to understand the actual meaning of the 2 Corinthian 11.14 , that it appears with an indeterminate article An , instead with a determinate The, what grammatically clearly denote that there is no One only Angel of Light, but there can be many.

Angel is a term that in the biblical language means messenger, and there are many mentioned in the scriptures, and since Christ is called in the Preamble of the Gospel of St John as the Lightof the world, all his angels essentially are Angels of Light.

I agree that the meaning refers just to the ability of Satan to impersonate whoever he wants, even to an actual angel of light, so it is just a warning to be cautious to accept any messenger that seems to come from God or any messenger that claims to talk in his behalf.

Now, from the point of view of Logic, it is also important to note that the fact that Satan can impersonate an Angel of Light does not means that necessarily any Angel of Light is Satan, the implication goes in only one way, it might have an additional if and only if to be a double implication as to have the meaning that the fundamentalists that use this quote pretend to give to it.

The name Lucifer, that some extremist sectarians liberally translates as Angel of Light, does not mean absolutely that, its literal and only valid translation is Morning Star.

Traditionally in The Bible St Uriel is called the Archangel of Light, so it is clear that if Satan can be using such a title that would clearly puts him under his jurisdiction, all the angels are under the authority of their respective archangel, otherwise this might be a no sense in the celestial army , so this should be a contradiction, therefore, Satan is not actually an Angel of Light.
