The Athensphere is not a layer in the Earth. The asthenosphere is the region of the mantle that is capable of moving by convection and has been linked to the movement of the tectonic plates (the lithosphere).
As odd as it is to think of things this way, continental lithosphere is more buoyant than oceanic lithosphere. The oceanic lithosphere is more dense.
