The primary economic sector is an economy that works with agriculture and extracting raw resources from the environment. It is important because raw resources help build up other jobs. For example, if one extracts lumber, jobs can move in to make the wood into products, such as chairs and tables.

Societies build up around these raw resources. Going back to the lumber example. Once wood is found in the environment, factories pop up to manufacture the wood. Then, as people move to work those manufacturing jobs (secondary economic sector), then doctors, resteraunts, home builders, and more show up to serve the people living in the area that are working the manufacturing jobs(tertiary economic sector). Finally, as these people settle in, they begin to have families, and education comes in (quaternary economic sector).

In summary, primary sector builds a society and it also helps make new jobs.
