Well, I'm not completely sure of this, but in my science class we were talking about slow- twitch muscles (like your esophagus for example) and fast twitch muscles (like your leg muscles).
Anyway, I asked do sloths have slow twitch muscles in their legs, and he said to look it up, so I did, and it turns out they do!
So the reason is they have slow twitch gastrocnemus (calf) muscles!
The sloth species that is considered the slowest is the Three-Toed Sloth, specifically the Pygmy Three-Toed Sloth (Bradypus pygmaeus), found in Panama. They move so slowly that algae can grow on their fur, which helps them blend in with their surroundings.

A three-toed sloth is one of the slowest mammals, moving at a speed of around 0.24 km/h (0.15 mph) on land. They are adapted to a slow-paced lifestyle, spending most of their time hanging upside down in trees.

That's because the sloth -- especially the three-toed sloth -- is the slowest animal around. Their legs and feet are shaped to hang from trees, so it's actually hard for sloths to walk on the ground. They can't run or stand upright on their feet. It would take a sloth nearly a month to walk one mile! Sloths don't do much walking on the ground, though -- they spend their lives hanging upside down in trees. They eat, sleep, and even have babies upside down!ANSWER IS THE SLOTHthe three toed sloththe snailEver heard someone called a "sloth" or "slow as a sloth" because they move really slowly?
