Is it warmer underground or on the surface?

well because of the sufuce of the earth and it is closer to cold air i would say on the surface

Why is air pressure greatest at the Earth's surface?

Because as you get closer to the surface of the earth, the more air that is on top of you. At the top of the atmosphere, there is no air, and everything is a vacuum, where you have no weight. When you get close to the earth, the weight of the air builds until it when you're at the very lowest point of the earths surface, all the air in the atmosphere above you is pressing down.

In what ways can geographic position be considered a temperature control?

Altitude: the higher you are, the cooler the air is, at least until entering the tropopause Latitude: the closer you are to the poles, the cooler the climate tends to be. Oceans: the closer to being downwind from an ocean or other large body of water, the closer the air is the temperature of the water surface. Further away, the air is more the temperature of the land which varies in temperature greatly.

What type of mass movement makes the most changes in earth's surface?

The mass movement that makes the most changes in Earth's surface is not air, or water, but a landslide. The four mass movements are landslide, slump, creep, and mudslide.Old Answer: air, water.

How is air pressure effected by altitude?

With a higher altitude, there is a lower air pressure. This is caused by gravity pulling the gas molecules of our atmosphere closer to its surface. when the molecules are farther away from the Earth's surface the gravitational pull is weaker thus making the atmosphere thinner higher up and thicker closer to the surface.

What causes your skin to turn pink when you are hot?

When you get hot, your blood flow increases and your blood vessels also get closer to the surface of your skin to allow the air to help you cool down. That is why your skin appears pink; your blood is closer to the surface.

Explain what hppens to air pressure as you move away from the earths surface?

Pressure increases as you get closer to earth.

Why is air that is closer to the earth's surface warmer than the air high above it?

At first, it puzzled me too. I doesn't quite make sense, does it? The sun is obviously closer to the air higher above Earth's surface, right, so why is the air closer to the surface warmer? The thing is, the Earth soaks up the sun much better that the air. Fill a jar with dirt and another with air, heat them both up and see. The dirt in the first jar is much warmer than the air in the second jar. So, when the sun gives off heat, the Earth sucks it up and radiates the heat into the air above it. Thus, the air closest to the air closest to the surface of the Earth is warmest. If you do not understand this, my apologies. I am no expert or professional. It is only a theory, but it's the best one I've got. My mother couldn't explain it to me so I thought about it and reason and logic lead me to this result. What happens to the volume of air in your lungs when you ascend to the surface of the ocean?

The air in your lungs expands in volume as you get closer to the surface of any water you swim in. This is because the air was compressed when deeper due to the pressure of the water around you. This is why when scuba divers always exhale while ascending to avoid rupturing their lungs as the air expands.

Why coldness increases as the altitude increases?

The air becomes thinner, thus it cannot retain heat as does heavier air. Also air closer to the earth's surface will be affected by the thermal mass of the earth, which retains heat.

Is the sun or lightning hotter?

Lightning can heat the surrounding air to about 6000 degrees Celsius, approximately the same temperature as the surface of the Sun. However the air cools down almost immediately. Also the surface of the sun is the coldest part, the closer to the centre you get the hotter it is (and, mysteriously, the sun's atmosphere is much hotter than the surface too).

When you are you closer to the Moon's surface or the earths core?

None, only the earths core is more closer, the moons surface is 37.000 Vertices from earth

Is air closer or farther from dew point when its colder?

Given a constant amount of moisture in the air, it is closer.
