The street that would be called first street is called front street because back in the 16 and 1700's the first street starting from the east (next to the Delaware River) was really on the river's front. Nowadays as the city has spread and Front street continued to go directly north, it no longer hugs the river. Also there is no 14th street. It's named Broad street.
