The answer is very simple: Because it's harmful to the eyes to stare at the sun

at ANY TIME. During a solar eclipse, weird things appear to be happening to the

sun. That arouses interest, and people become curious and more likely to stand

there and stare at the sun.

It's not the eclipse that's dangerous. It's looking at the sun.

Because you're still looking "at" the sun, and can burn your eyes. It is still incredibly bright, especially around the outline. It is strongly recommended that you NEVER do this!

Can people watch a solar eclipse?

It is possible for people to watch a solar eclipse; it may be part of a solar eclipse that they see or even the total eclipse. It is suggested not to look at it though since it is bad for one's eyes. So, special sunglasses help for that - not ordinary ones. With the naked eye, it will cause serious damage, and even blindness. Some common methods of avoiding this are watching through tree branches, so that most of the light is blocked, or buying special protective glasses. (Sunglasses won't do the trick).

Is it harmful to go out during solar eclipse?

Yes, it is. However, it is NOT safe to ever look at the sun during a solar eclipse. The moon blocks enough of the direct sunlight so that the irises remain open, but this leaves the eyes vulnerable to radiation dangerous to them. Never observe a solar eclipse with the eyes unprotected. Lunar eclipses are safe to observe with the naked eye.

Why is it dangerous to look directly at the moon during a solar eclipse but not during lunar eclipse?

During a lunar eclipse the earth is between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow over the moon. So while you are watching the eclipse there is no danger of accidentally looking directly at the sun. During a solar eclipse the moon passes between the earth and the sun so the moon partially blocks out light from the sun. Thus to watch a solar eclipse requires looking directly at the sun which is very dangerous for the naked eye. So to avoid the risk of serious damage to the eye, you should only observe a solar eclipse using an indirect method.
