Transistors ran cooler than Vacuum tubes.

Because we were still finding out the info for the computers in around about the middle ot thefirst generation and this had been subsequently led to lack of computer constlier to produce commertial infomation
The first generation computers where more sturdy and harder to break. That's why you see them around still today.
Every genration has advantages over other genration of computers, second generation of computers are in small in size as compared to first generation of computers, as well as faster in speed and more reliable, so as third genration of computers are more faster than ist and 2nd generation of computers, fast in speed, more reliable, more commercial use, less heat generation..... simpliarly 4th generation of computers are fastest than all the three generation of computers and more reliable, network fascilities and etc..... Mostly the machines got smaller and more reliable as transistors replaced vacuum tubes.
Second generation computers are often called transistorized computers. The transistorized computers are more advanced computers than the first generation of computers.
The features include: used integrated circuits, smaller in size compared to second generation computers, faster and more reliable, used high level language, magnetic core and solid states as main storage, reduced computational time and had low maintenance cost, input and output became more sophisticated. They were developed during the period of 1964 to 1971.
fifth generation

They are very reliable to determine what your tamagotchi is going to morph into, the odds and evens vary on the generation number. If the generation number is 1, it is more likely to get a tamagotchi that is ODD. (You can still get EVEN).
There is a very large difference.First generation has a square Wi-Fi antenna, the second has an oval one.The processor and RAM of the second generation are significantly faster than that of the first generation. The second generation is thinner than the first generation. The second generation can handle most Wi-Fi multiplayer games that the first generation cannot.Basically, the second generation is a very large step-up in everything from the first generation.
First generation (1940-1956) Vaccum Tubes Second Generation(1956-1963)Transistors Third Generation(1964-1971)Integrated circuits Fourth Generation(1971-present)Microprocessors We already know about some of the early computers - ENIAC , EDVAC , EDSAC , UNIVAC I and IBM . These machines and others of their time used thousands of vacuum tubes . A vacuum tube was a fragile glass device , which used filaments as a source of electronics and could control and amplify electronic signals . It was the only high-speed electronic switching device available in those days . These vacuum tube computers could perform computations in milliseconds and were referred to as first generation computers.

well, second generation is current generation right now (summer, 2009) second generation has built in speakers, and it's much skinnier, but it is also a bit more expensive, but i'd say its worth it. (i have one)
Easier to learn: Second-generation programming languages are easier to learn than first-generation languages. They are closer to human language and are more intuitive
This is a computer field where we understand about development process of computer in world level. here is five types genration of computer First genration 1945-1955 Second genration 1956-1964 Third genration 1965-1975 Fourth genration 1976-1984 Fifth genration 1985- now above geenration we genrally understand what was past and what is present stage in computer (H/S).
