Although the USSR was officially our ally we did not really trust them because they were communist. However many of the scientists and technicians on the Manhattan Project were communist spies and kept the USSR fully informed on practically everything about the atomic bomb.
So no one tries to start a war to steal it.
Because they didn't want other people to know anything
The development of the atomic bomb was not only the most ambitious scientific enterprie in history, it was also the best-kept secret of the war.
Who knows which country started on the atomic bomb research first. Japan burned up much of their research. The Germans did the same. The US kept their records but we don't know who started researching first. We only know the US actually finished the research and developed the bomb.
If you mean the Doolittle Raid. The Japanese figured there was no planes that could reach their country. Hawaii was way beyond range of planes at the time. The bombers launched off the aircraft carrier to bomb Tokyo was never attempted before so the thought of it as a way to bomb was probably never considered by the Japanese
The atomic bomb has advantages and disadvantages and sometimes they are the same thing. The cost of building, housing, maintaining and guarding an atomic missile bomb is astronomical. The dangers involved in accidental radiation is minimal but still there. If the bomb is set off radiation is a definite problem around the world. The bomb can destroy cities and small countries all at once. (also advantage) But, retaliation is possible. You can end up destroying the world. The consequences of the bomb's afterlife radiation takes 50 to 100 years or more to wear out depending on the amount of bombs dropped.
Ended WW2. Japanese were clearly losing, but due to their culture and tradition they refused to surrender. The US in dropping the A-bomb debatably saved more lives then they killed, as without it the war in Asia would have continued.

we could have kept the bomb a secretusing the bomb led to the arms raceand the bomb left behind massive loads of radiationWrongthe secret had already been handed to the USSR by spysthe seeds of the arms race already existed, it would have happened without nuclear weapons
Nobody, the bomb was kept by the nation that manufactured it.
Secrets should be kept secret because if they were not, everyone would know it. If everyone knew your secret, then you probably wouldn't be too happy. And a secret would not be secret then.
The war would have kept on going and millions more would have died.
The US President Roosevelt learned from physicist Einstein that German physicists were designing an atomic bomb to lob on the US. Einstein and another scientist recommended the US build one and to do it fast before Germany got one built. The Manhattan Project was started after a committee recommended the bomb be built and kept secret. They had planned to use the bomb on Germany but the war ended prior to the completion of the atomic bombs.
in 1872 3 scientists dug to the earths core and implanted an electro magnet more powerful than an atomic bomb. The government kept all this secret so that no one could disrupt the magnet's current.

China was kept completely in the dark about nuclear development.
President Wilson had a stroke. It was kept a secret.
They aren’t kept secret.
