The word FEAR that is used in The Bible is a translation that means that one should look to God with Awe and Reverence. The translators of the Bible did their very best to convey an accurate translation, and selected the word Fear because, in a sense, a person who looks to God with the Awe and Reverece due to Him, would also be humble and be willing for Him to be their GOD. We are not to be afraid of Him, unless in a sense you might want to be afraid of offending Him, for He gives us so very much for free, and we have no idea how much He loves us. . . so to offend Him on purpose might be something you want fear. We often say things like "I'm afraid I hurt your feelings" - well you aren't really Scared, you are just concerned about your actions and by your choice of words, you are saying that you respect the person so much that you would really not want to hurt their feelings. If you were to subsitiute "In humility, give God your reverence, awe and respect", then you would have the definition of FEAR that the Bible translators selected. "Fear" was simply a more efficient word.

This fear is not a morbid dread, but a healthy concern over displeasing our Life-Giver. It is a term that is closely related to love.

God's omnipotence and infinitude should bring us to an overarching awe of Him. One aspect of this awareness and awe, is to fear ignoring or disobeying Him.

The relevant Hebrew word (yarei; yir'ah) means both fear and awe, and etymologically implies strong awareness.

Fear no man but god?

In The Bible in The Book of Proverbs: Chapter 29:25: The fear of man brings a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe. (The Believer can either "fear man" of "fear the Lord." He cannot fear both. If he fears man, he will be made a slave of man and will always find himself in a "snare." "Safety" is guaranteed only to him "who puts his trust in the LORD."

What is psalm 27 about?

Psalm 27 is saying that when you have The Lord your God on your side you have no one to fear and nothing to fear. It is saying that when our enemies, the wicked, try to attack they will fall. Even in war against you you shall not be afraid but you can be confident. Because you have no one to fear if you trust in the Lord. It is also saying, asking the Lord to let me ( those who ask) dwell in the house of the Lord forever, his house being heaven and eternity with God. It is saying to be strong and do not fear. In your hardship and times of suffering you are not alone and should not be Afraid!. For when God is with you who could be against you? This does not mean it will be easy and not painful, and yes we all will die sometime somehow and with the salvation of the Lord you will spend eternity in paradise (heaven)
