The base unit was on the 1st floor and she was about 30 feet away on the 2nd floor of our house. I picked up the cordless phone and it had no power. I lost my base unit as well as many other appliances in the house.

∙ 15y agoSure is. The reason is simple: any electrical wire can transmit an electrical shock. Electricity can even flow along a wireless communication signal, too. Stay off the phone during a storm ... even your mobile phones.

∙ 13y agoUnlike a corded phone, where a lightning strike on outdoor wires and/or equipment can be conducted directly to the user, a cordless phone can provide some distance and safety between the user, the indoor wiring and the base station/charger. However, if lightning strikes it can still destroy your base station/charger, so it's best to disconnect all telephones and other sensitive electronic equipment from the phone lines and power outlets before the storm arrives. I've learned my lesson - back in the 90's I lost a pair of $500 fax machines in 2 separate storms :(
