A fort is totally enclosed with sally ports as an entrance. Battery's are only fortified on 1-3 sides and may have the rear exposed. Wagner was totally enclosed, so it should be named a fort not a battery. It was well fortified and dominated Morris island. This is why the Yankees could not take it from us, we only gave it up when we ran out of fresh water. I feel it was called a battery at the time because it was made of sand and Palmetto logs, not brick and mortar like Sumter and Moultrie. The earthen work was in-genius because it could not be knocked down and the sand dispersed the shells impact. Good ole confederate engineering!
Summary of the action-Forces Engaged: 6,800 total (US 5,000; CS 1,800) Estimated Casualties: 1,689 total (US 1,515; CS 174) Description: After the July 11 assault on Fort Wagner failed, Gillmore reinforced his beachhead on Morris Island. At dusk July 18, Gillmore launched an attack spearheaded by the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, a black regiment. The unit’s colonel, Robert Gould Shaw, was killed. Members of the brigade scaled the parapet but after brutal hand-to-hand combat were driven out with heavy casualties. The Federals resorted to siege operations to reduce the fort. This was the fourth time in the war that black troops played a crucial combat role, proving to skeptics that they would fight bravely if only given the chance. Result(s):Confederate victory273 members of the 54th died in the failed attack on Ft, Wagner.
It made it easery when they took and signed a treaty
i personally liked Ft. Hood. i was there once as a military wife. and also as a soldier myself. the cost of living was great. we paid like 695 for a 3 bedroom 2 full bath townhome. killeen the city ft. hood is in is very small. but every major city is 2-3 hours away. if ft.hood didnt deploy so much i would be there now. Killeen is a dump, and Ft hood deploys all the time. Ft hood wouldnt even be in the top 10 best army bases Here's a few that give you great location with very good overall quality of life. Ft shafter is in honolulu and hardly ever deploys. Ft mcnair is in DC and hardly ever deploys, and has everything you could ever dream of as you get outside the gate. Ft Carson is probably the most beautiful base in the US, To be surrounded by the rocky mountains in colorado spriongs is for most soldiers a dream, They've taken this base off the pcs automatic list as too many soldiers try to transfer here.

Artillery firing from The Battery in Charleston.
Known: 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Therefore, 1 = 2.54 [cm / in]. Also known: 1 = 12 [in / ft]. Therefore, 80 [ft] = 80 [ft] * 12 [in / ft] = 960 [in] * 1 = 960 [in] * 2.54 [cm / in] = 2438.4 [cm]. =============================
There are far too many alternatives. For example, 1 ft * 1 ft * 4.4 ft or 1 ft * 2 ft * 2.2 ft or 1 ft * 4 ft * 1.1 ft or 10 ft * 0.1 ft * 4.4 ft or 10000 ft * 0.0001 ft * 4.4 ft etc
$3. $1.00 for the bulb and $2.00 for the battery
Known: 1 [yd] = 3 [ft] or 1 = 3 [ft/yd] Also known: 1 [ft] = 12 [in] or 1 = 12 [in/ft] The volume = 70 [ft] * 4 [ft] * 3 [in] = {70 [ft] / 1} * {4 [ft] / 1} * {3 [in] / 1 / 1 } = {70 [ft] / 3 [ft/yd]} * {4 [ft] / 3 [ft/yd]} * {3 [in] / 12 [in/ft] / 3 [ft/yd]} = (70/3) * (4/3) * (1/12) [yd^3] = 2.593 cubic yards =====================================
