Grant was willing to accept heavy casualties in his battles with Lee because he believed that the Union had greater resources and manpower, which would ultimately wear down the Confederate forces. He viewed the war as a test of endurance, where inflicting consistent pressure on Lee's army would lead to a strategic advantage. Additionally, Grant's overarching goal was to bring a swift conclusion to the war, even if it meant sacrificing soldiers in the short term. His commitment to achieving victory at any cost reflected his determination to end the conflict and preserve the Union.

George McClellan was the general before Grant. After the battle of Richmond, Lincoln accused him of having the slows due to the fact that he was overly conservative and cautious. He did not pursue the southern retreat after the battle, a move which was considered by many a prolonging of the war. His decisions caused him to loose his position as general to Grant, a drunkard who was willing to take "necessary risks".

Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee faced each other primarily during the American Civil War. Grant did not lose any major battles against Lee after the Overland Campaign began in 1864, ultimately leading to Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House in April 1865. However, earlier in the war, Grant had faced defeats at battles such as the Battle of Cold Harbor and the Battle of the Wilderness, but these were part of larger campaigns rather than direct one-on-one encounters. Overall, Grant's strategic approach ultimately outlasted Lee's, leading to the Confederacy's defeat.
Ulysses S. Grant.
He actually only won 3 out of the 9 battles he fought.
It depends. If you beat people, you gain points. I you lose, you lose them.
