The main form of governing or influencing people that Jesus Christ used was to simply teach them correct and true principles so that they could then use those principles to govern themselves.

Christ was not about getting power over people, he was concerned about lifting people up out of their proverbial slums so that they could live the rest of their lives benefiting from what he taught them.

I guess the old Chinese proverb "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish you feed him for a life time." Applies to the methods that Christ used to influence people.
