Sir Francis Drake was famous for being the FIRST captain(as magallen died in phillipines and did not continue the journey but his ship did) to successfully sail around the globe, which paved the way for England's expansion into the New World. He also served as a vice-admiral in the English fleet during the sea battles with the Spanish Armada in 1588.
