Because the storyline was concluded. The basis around the story was that Aang had to master the 4 elements to defeat the Firelord, and by the end of the Avatar Aang episode (Sozin's Coment Part 4) it was clear that both the Firelord had been defeated and that Aang had mastered the elements.

∙ 12y agoAang's story had ended. Nickelodeon actually approached the creators asking to expand the story, but they felt anything afterwards would be anti-climatic. Instead, the wrote a spin-off, Avatar: Legend of Korra, which will be airing in 2012. :)

if you mean in the series, no. the creators of avatar decided to stop making avatar when aang learned all the bending because each chapter is named for the element he is trying to learn. but in theory, yes. after aang dies, the next avatar spirit will be reincarnated into a waterbender.

The creators felt that they were able to end Aangs journey at the end of Avatar the Last Airbender as it was mainly Aang having to defeat the firelord and end the war. The Legend of Korra is meant to be almost a spin off/add on for The Last Airbender. The creators talk about showing clips of what happened after the series ended to answer questions like what happens to the gang, and what becomes of zukos mother.
