Why was the JFK assassination so important?

Aside from that, Kennedy was a very well liked President who is still fondly remembered. We did not want him to be killed. As Phil Ochs said at the time,

As the angry seas have struck upon the sand;

For a man so full of life, even death was caught off guard,

That was the President, and that was the man."
