Actually it started to worship the god Dionysus but I guess what ever floats your boat works because it evolved into means of entertainment.

∙ 13y agoSometimes just for entertainment reasons, as we do today. Other times they were part of religious festivals or competitions. But all the ancient plays had a moral or a lesson of some type incorporated in them.
