several reasons actually. the biggest being that the cost of operating the ship was not worth keeping her on active service. plus most of the European travelers were going by jet in 6 to 10 hours while it took 5 days by boat. Currently Norwegien Cruise lines own the ship and have several plans to return the vessel to active service. Currently the ship is docked in Philadelphia.
