The reason is unknown. However, this change of sequence is a big issue that should not have been done according to Quran. Surah 4:46 says that changing the location of the words is corruption. Then how much more corruption it is if the order of surahs are changed. The the first 5 surahs should have been 96, 68, 73, 74 and 1. Uthman might have decided himself to change this way as he was not fearful to burn the original writings of Quran that differed from his copies.
