First, recognize what things are recyclable/reuseable, and which do not deteriorate in land fills. Second, purposefully use products in recyclable/reuseable containers exclusively, and be careful with any waste products (used oil from an engine, old batteries, oily kitchen waste, scrap meat waste, etc.) that they be recycled instead of sent to land fills or the ground. Third, always sort all trash - household, business, industrial - into verious classes of recyclables so that only a minimum of the trash ends up in the land fill. By doing this, you conserve land, reduce contamination of soil and water sources, and help reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources by returning them into useful service.

We need to minimize our wastes for the simple reason that if we don't, our world will be dirty, smelly and poor. We can minimize our wastes by using re-usable materials(so that instead of throwing it away, you can just wash it and use it again). We can also minimize it by recycling our trash.

To avoid waste accumulation, the most obvious answer would be to live with more of a sustainable living approach. This simply means to limit your own personal intake of items that are wasteful.

The good news is that most of the items that are being purchased in a day-to-day shopping are going to be progressively sold in sustainable packaging. Pay attention to what can be recycled/re-used going forward and always know that if you need any custom packaging solutions, make sure you're not adding waste to the problem.
