Chinese parents value boys more than girls because they believed their sons would be strong, and the daughters would be of no help on the farms and around the house. Also, they have to give gifts to the groom's family once their daughter marries.

∙ 13y agoThe Chinese believe that boys are more valuable because after they grow up, they could take in a bride and still support and take care of the family; elders have expectations for their kids to support the family after the elders retire (old Chinese tradition). Men are also expected to work if the family owns a farm. Women are usually expected married to the man, and live with the man. But nowadays, boys and girls are treated equally because society has changed, and less people care about whether it's a boy or girl.
