Speaking in terms of ancient history, people were made slaves because they were a source of inexpensive labor. They were also used as Roman gladiator games and as tutors to wealthy Romans. Moving from ancient history towards the 19th Century, people were made slaves for the same reason, cheap labor.

They were stripped of their dignity as a human being. Their rights were taken away. They were sold to other human beings like meat in a grocery store. They were separated from their family. Some seen their family members killed. Some were raped, beaten, lynched, burned and tortured. Their self-esteem was taken away.

Slaves were mistreated, and in some places still are because they are looked upon as an object, but not a human. It is a shame that people have to think that way because we are all imperfect. they were also mistreated for pleasure and were even killed just for making a weeny mistake such as doing something wrong, this is not fair as we should all be treated fairley because we all have human rights and equal opportunities and people should not dis that as no one should be higher up than other people we should all be at an equal height.

Slaves were mistreated because they were not viewed as equals to white people. It was not until the 1960's that they began to see equal treatment.
