Brontosaurus is an invalid name for Apatosaurus excelsus. Apatosaurus didn't live in swamps; they lived in semi-arid plains. The reason that they are frequently associated with swamps is because when they were first discovered, it was believed that sauropods would be unable to support themselves on dry land, and that they must have spent their lives at least partially submerged in the water of swamps. This is now known to be completely false.

That myth arose because when they were first discovered, paleontologists believed it was impossible for an animal that large to be able to stand on land, so they thought it must have lived in the water of swamps, which would help to support its weight. It is now known that sauropods like Brontosaurus didn't need to be submerged and were exclusively terrestrial animals.
