because Ancient Egyptian beleved that in the afterlife, people need money and other good (they even believed that to get into the afterlife you had to pay someone at the gate of the underworld a coin) so they were often "buried" with lots of gold and money, and people needed money (or wanted it) so they broke and tried to take it
