Check the fuse, behind the drivers storage cubby (below and to the right of the steering wheel). Check the connection of the wiring to the rear window. Examine the demister circuit covering the rear window for any breaks. This is the usual place for any faults. A circuit board mending pen can be bought from electronics stores, that may repair faulty demister tracks. (Rover 400)
IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS THE REAR WINDOW DEMISTER (HEATER) you wont notice it working unless your rear window is fogged up or icy. CMK
It you can hear the window motor moving, then the window came unclipped. If you can't, the window motor is dead.

Just bought a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport. The rear window will not latch. We were told to press on the right side of the plastic on the rear window. I tried it, my son and husband we cannot close the window and my hand hurts. The dealer we bought it from said that's how they are. I find it hard to believe we have to slam it thousands of times. What can we do. There is definitely a malfunction with the latch or the switch on the release handle.
A person a can open the rear door from the inside. Get into the car from another door that will open and open it from the there.
