Well two things need to know before can answer your question. One is it a automatic or standard transmisson? Need to know so can better help you on your question. If it is an automatic, I would have to ask on your steering colume for the transmission selector does it read (PRND321)? If so, I would have to say that your third gear is worn out or burnt up. Pull the dip stick out and smell the oil from the stick. If it is dark in color and smell like a burnt rag, sorry to say your trans needs a rebuild. If your trans is a manual trans then I would have to say that the selecting fork for the gear is either bent or has broken off one of the arms. Then you are looking for a tear down to replace the selecting fork. If your trans is an auto, don't drive around town in D mode all the time. What I mean by that is when you are driving around the trans is going in and out of fourth gear from third alot. 45 mph is the highest I drive around in third gear in town. I am not saying that you can't go higher but most town and city's you see a posted speed of 45. By driving in D mode all the time you are putting a Hell of alot in and out shifting on your trans and that my friend wares out the the two highest gears. Now this is just somethings to look at, cause without really hearing what happened I am just giving you possible clues on what is up. It could be just a linkage adjustment and your good to go. Need just a little more detail.

I'm not real sure what your question is but I'll try to answer. In all cases speed within a gear selection depends on your trucks rear differential gear ratio. If you mean what is the lowest speed you can shift to third gear you should be able to drive on flat surfaces as low as 20 mph. If your truck seems to run well you are OK. If your truck jerks or seems to be laboring, you probably have a very high gear in the rear end and may need to wait to about 25 mph. If you are talking about the maximum speed you can go in third gear you will know when you reach it because you will have also reached maximum effective RPM on your engine and the truck will simply not go any faster in that gear.
