If a 2001 Chevy Impala will not start after replacing a thermostat, perhaps it is possible that a sensor was bumped unknowingly. Check all of the sensors that might have been touched during the changing of the thermostat to see that they are all still plugged in.

You could have a bad thermostat....mine wasn't moving at all and the fan would come on at start up.Make sure to clear your computer after you change it.

Evap emission control leak. This could be as simple as a loose or bad fuel cap. Unless you find the fuel cap loose, I would start with replacing the fuel cap.
