I have two Trofeos' 1990 & 1992. I had this same problem with both cars. The least expensive approach would to drop the drain pan and clean or the transmission filter. Change the fluid even if you have already changed the fluid. If you had the fluid changed at a garage, they usually suck it out. Rarely does this method remove the debris that settles in the pan. Open the hood and on the right side of the transmission you will see a Module that is screwed into the transmission housing. Take it off and replace it. The filter, pan gasket, and module will cost you about $35.00 to $40.00 at most. These transmissions' are pretty stout, unless you or the previous ower has done a lot of "jack rabbit" starts. If indeed this works, drive the car a couple of months and have the fluid changed again. The reason for this is that the fuild in the torque converter will have had a chance to recycle. If there was a lot of debris in the pan and filter when you did it the first time, you be wise to clean or replace the fluid and filter again. Good Luck,
Dick Adams I had the same problem with my 1991 toronado, it's not a problem with the mechanics of the transmission. I had it taken to the repair shop, and it was a simple electrical problem with a blown fuse preventing electricity from getting to the transmssion. once the fuse was replaced, the car shifted fine.
Safety neutral switch
The sensor DPS (Driver Position Sensor) on a 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado is part of the vehicle's electronic control system, primarily related to the automatic transmission. It helps determine the position of the gear shift, ensuring smooth and accurate shifting between gears. If the DPS malfunctions, it can lead to issues such as incorrect gear engagement or erratic shifting behavior. Proper functioning of the DPS is crucial for optimal vehicle performance and drivability.
A 1992 Oldsmobile may not shift out of park because the transmission is stuck. Check to transmission fluid to ensure it is at the proper level.
The Second Shift was created in 1989.

The second shift is a woman's "shift" of work at home, consisting of housework. (The "first shift" being their job.)

The 2000 Oldsmobile Alero shift solenoid is located on the top of the transmission. The shift solenoid can be access by removing the inside shifter console.
There is a staple on the front of the gearshift just below the knob, remove it and lift the shift knob.
If your 1991 vehicle won’t shift out of park, it could be due to a faulty brake light switch, which prevents the shift interlock system from functioning. Check if your brake lights are working; if not, the switch may need replacement. Additionally, ensure that the gear shift is fully pressed in the park position and that the ignition is in the "on" position. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it may require professional diagnosis.
To replace the shift cable on a 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety. Then, remove the center console to access the shift cable, detaching it from the shifter and the transmission linkage. Install the new shift cable by reversing the removal steps, ensuring it is properly secured and connected. Finally, reassemble the center console and reconnect the battery.
