I bought a motorcycle from a friend in 1992 with a bill of sale. He bought it in 1980 with a bill of sale. It was never registered. How do you get a title for it?

This depends on the state you are in. the best thing to do is go to your local DMV and ask them what process they have in place to get you title. this generaly means that you will need to go through the Title Bond Process. it starts with an inspection of the bike to confirm the VIN. then the DMV inputs the VIN into there computer system to find out who the last registered owner was, You have to Buy this information, then you send a certified letter to the person to get them to send the title to you or your DMV may allow them to send a notirized Bill of Sale, you must send them the DMV "bill of sale" form. if they send the title or Bill of Sale to you take it to the DMV and put the bike in your name if they don't respond or refuse then starts the TITLE BOND process.

How do i get a title for a 1968 Lincoln continental that didn't come with one?

Check with your local DMV. I did something like this but it was awhile ago; as I recall, the DMV looked up the previous registered owner (grandparents of the guy I bought it from) and I had to first send them by certified mail a letter asking for the title, then take the delivery notice to DMV after some period of time, when they issued me a new one. Something like that. That was in California.

Register a vehicle with no title?

Proboblay Not! I Think It's The Law To Purchase Cars With Titles File for a lost "Pink Slip" through the DMV. They send a certified letter to the last owner of record if there is no reply over a specific time frame they issue you a new title for the vehicle.

How do you obtain Title to abandoned auto on property purchased from auto owner?

Each state is different. In MN, you have to send a certified letter to owner and wait so many days then if no reply/title you have to go to the DMV give a statement and get bond insurance? Something like that. Then more paper work and you'll finally get a title....

You go to the DMV and request one. You can get both certified and non-certified copies. In some states, you can purchase them online and have them e-mailed to you (non-certified - certified copies will be sent via the mail).

Moved from discussion to answer area If this question is related to the dmv emission test, then approved means certified shops(ASE ect)or shops listed by them and dmv should have that information to give you. Not all shops and mechanics are certified even though they can do the work.
