Most car stereos have an internal switch to change the power supplyfrom the tuner section to the cassette or disc motors and (maybe) preamp. Should be aligned so that inserting the disc trips the switch. The switch iseither a small box with a "lever" that depresses a button or an optical sensor. If the switch is mechanical it WILL need to be replaced.
New AnswerMost 1989 Lincoln systems have AM/FM Cassette head unit with separate CD player (either CD changer or single play unit). The CD player is connected to the head unit by a multi-pin cable. Check cable connection behind both radio and CD playerhave you ever had the transmission filter changed and fluid changed?? Great place to start looking. If you have already checked the fluid level!
It could be you thermostat Have you have already checked oil level, and/ot changed oil recently Exaust restrictions can cause overheating
It could be the blower fan resistor or the relay
If the parking brake assembly hasn't been checked, check it out.
have you checked the fuse if so then you will need to replace the resistor for the blower hig and low dettings have you checked the fuse do you have 12 volts to blower if so then you will need to replace the resistor for the blower replace the blower motor
Check the number 11 fuse under the cabin fusebox. I checked mines and it was fried. I changed it it should be an ATM 10 fuse in the 11 slot. My car works fine.

have the alternator checked. u are drawing to much current when using lights, is usually a good indication that alternator is about to fail its not the altinater its new
