the 2 are most likely unrelated the check engine light is on for an emissions-related malfunction the seat belt light could be a number of things - does the vehicle have airbags? - does the vehicle have automatic shoulder belts, and if so, is the lapbelt used or not? thats all i can contribute here I have a 1996 Ford Probe. The check engine light came on. Took it to a mechanic who said usually it means the catalytic converter is going bad but if that were the case, the car would be performing poorly.. would have no "get up and go" and might have a rotten egg odor. Since that was not the case, he said the sensor was shot, needs a new sensor.
