It should come on when you turn on the ignition without starting the car. If it does not the bulb is blown or it has been disconnected. Some unscrupulous sellers do this before selling a car with emissions problems where the light is on. If you just bought the car, have the bulb checked and if you find after replacing the bulb or connecting it, the light stays on demand a refund or repair of the problem from the seller. Get written proof of the condition of the bulb. If they refuse contact your state Attorney General for advice on what to do. It is illegal to sell a car with a non-functioning MIL (check engine light).
About 30 things can cause the light to come on. TAke it to auto zone and have the codes read for free.
No, this will not cause the MIL light to come on, unless you removed one of the sensors such as the MAP sensor. You must have all sensors in place. There is no workaround.
Malfunction Indicator Light
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) commonly refered to as the check engine light Key On Engine Off (KOEO)
Is the light (check eng.... MIL on whening diag. says no MIL?
you should never have to change your oxygen sensors. The only time you have to is if the PCM (powertrain control module) is not recieving any input from them. This would cause an MIL (engine light) to illuminate.
Disconnect the neg cable from the battery for a moment or two. This will reset the light but it will come back on if the reason the light came on in the first place wasn't fixed.
Any number of possible faults will cause the MIL to illuminate the only way to find the fault is to have the fault codes read by diagnostic equipment. The fault needs to be rectified then the codes can be re-set which will then extinguish the light MIL malfunction indication light
If Advises Mil is rearranged what would it be ?
MIL stands for Maintenance Indication Light. If your vehicle fails inspection due to MIL Command Status, it is due to emission failure.
This depends on the vehicle. If the thermostat is stuck open the engine won't get to the proper operating temperature which could trigger the MIL (check engine light).
The 1 Mil is equivalent to 0.001 inch. The higher the mil the thicker that product would be. So, 4 mil is thicker than 3 mil.
