when the dog's spine is fractured
If you look at the shape of a dog's body, laying on his back (spine) would be an unstable condition, and he'd roll to the side one way or the other. Dogs do not lie on their spine because it hurts. :) There are dogs that lay right on their backs, my dog does it.(Jack Russell)
no because they are invertibrates
No, a dogs tail is just a continuation of the spine.

The only part of a spine that should stick out while bending forwards, is the ridge (a bumpy line). It usually sticks up nearer the lower-back. It does this because the skin and muscle thins. If there is anything worrying you about your spine, see a chyropractor.
Spine. Stick.

Dogs have 24-26 bones in the spine.

Lungs; your ribs and spine would break.
Although CDs do not have a spine, a CD Case would. Similar to the spine of a book, the spine would be the narrow vertical back side of the case which includes the hinge thingee... if you partially open the case and view it from the bottom, the spine would be the bottom of the "V".
