Well, there are various reasons. Its an example of the nature vs. nurture concept, or to be P.C., nature or nurture. Some men may have always had a natural desire within them to be a girl, regardless of environment, possibly because of a variaton in the correct chromosomes a male is supposed to have. Then there is the situation where a man/ boy was in an environment when he may have been groomed to be a women or was exposed by association to the concept of being a women and then the desire to do so was cultivated.
