Because all analgesics do not work the same way. Different medicines treat different kinds of pain because theyaffect the different receptors in the brain. Percodan works the same way, it uses 5mg's of oxycodone as well as a certain amount of asprin. It is very common for Dr's who treat people with chronic pain or certain diseases with a combination of different pain medications.

Oxycontin is a long lasting( 12 hours) formulation of the medication. Generally it is prescribed to be taken twice a day and a fast acting( immediate release) form of oxycodone such as percocet will be prescribed in a small dosage to take during the day for "breakthrough pain".

What is more effective oxycodone hydrocholoride or oxycodone hydrocholoride with acetametaphin?

Oxycodone Acetaminophen IS Oxycodone-Hydrochloride, but combined with Acetaminophen. (Tylenol) The only difference is that the Oxycodone-Hcl is pressed into a tablet with Acetaminophen. They are NOT chemically combined, but only "mixed" together. Oxycodone-Hydrochloride, or Oxycodone-Hcl, is an slightly acidic salt form of the opiate painkiller oxycodone. Oxycodone-Hcl is the form that almost every oxycodone tablet is found in. It is a crystalline salt form of the drug, and is used for oral (by mouth) administration. Acetaminophen is a non-narcotic analgesic pain killer, which is found in many different over-the-counter (OTC) medications like Tylenol. Acetaminophen is often combined with low-strength narcotic opiate/opioid painkillers such as Lortab, Percocet, Endocet, ect. It is usually added to these medications to add to the pain relieving effects, and to discourage recreational drug abuse. In high doses, acetaminophen is highly toxic to the liver and can cause liver damage or failure. Due to this, taking large doses of such combination medications is VERY dangerous and potentially fatal. If one insists upon abusing such drugs, there are methods to separate the acetaminophen from the oxycodone-hcl, but I will not discuss this because I do NOT condone drug abuse. On most prescription bottles for these combination medications (oxycodone-hcl with acetaminophen), you will see the letters APAP. This indicates the presence of acetaminophen in the medication. Acetaminophen is also commonly referred to as Paracetemol. -Take ONLY the drugs PRESCRIBED to YOU by a MD! Do NOT share or give away ANY prescription drugs to ANY friends or family members!-

Does percodan make 10-325 strength?

According to Nursing 2011 Drug Handbook, the answer to Percodan-325, the answer is no. Percodan is a compound of two different formulas for oxycodone to equal 4.88 mg of oxycodone (again two formulas) and 325 mg of aspirin. Percocet is a compound of oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol) and is manufactured in varying strengths of both oxycodone and acetaminophen.

Is a hydrocodone a perkiest?

Hydrocodone is not percocet. Percocet is a combination oxycodone and acetaminophen. Hydrocodone is the active ingredient in brand name Vicodin, which also has acetaminophen in it. The difference is that oxycodone is a little more potent than hydrocodone, but both are very effective for treatment of pain.

Are vocodin and oxycodone apap both classified as opiates?

Vicodin (generic is hydrocodone) and oxycodone apap are both classified as opiates. I assume the person asking the question meant Vicodin instead of Vocodin. Oxycodone apap is the generic form of OxyContin with acetaminophen added. Acetaminophen is the generic form of Tylenol. AFAIK, both are Schedule II opiates. former 20 year x-ray tech

Why can't percocet BE filled ANYMORE Now its oxycodone?

Percocet contains both Oxycodone and Acetaminophen (Tylenol). As such, if you're just getting a straight-up Oxycodone prescription, all you need to do is add OTC Tylenol.

Is oxycodone and Demerol the same?

From experience if you take the same amount of oxycodone(ex. percocet roxicodone) and demerol, Demerol is stronger.

Is percocet an nsaid?

No, pharmacolically, Percocet is a combo drug containing both a narcotic, an opiate-like drug called "oxycodone" and an NSAID, such as Aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen. An NSAID stands for "Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug", and alone are non-narcotic and can be bought over the counter. Percocet is via prescription-only painkiller, a narcotic, because it contains the opiate, oxycodone. and is combined with either aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen depending on the brand and/or country for which it is prescribed.

What does a Percocet say on it?

Percocet tablets contain a combination of both Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. Different dosages have different pill colors. All dosages have the milligrams of Oxycodone imprinted on the pill (ex: "7" for 7 mgs of Oxycodone). Some of the dosages ALSO have the amount of Acetaminphen imprinted on the pill (ex: 7/500 indicates there are 7mgs of Oxycodone and 500 mgs of Acetaminophen in the Percocet tablet). It is confusing. http://www.pharmer.org/node/1788

What is the difference between oxycodone and vicotine?

Vicodin* is a brand name for hydrocodone, which is different than oxycodone. The two are quite similar as they are both derived from codeine. Oxycodone however is about 50% stronger than hydrocodone (vicodin).

Does Oxycontin and percoset show up separate?

Percocet and Oxycontin are brand names of two medications both containing the opiate/narcotic, oxycoDONE. The difference is that percocet is oxycodone and acetaminophen aka Tylenol, also sold in various dosages under names such as endocet or oxycodone/apap to name a couple. Oxycontin is the time released version of oxycodone containing no 'Tylenol'.
