If just the fuel pump has failed you would still have spark. But, you could have serious electrical problems that caused multiple problems that included the fuel pump circuit and the ignition circuit to fail.
Any motor should get spark with or without gas in it. The ignition system works off electronics and does not require fuel for it to work. Yes you should get spark.

If the starter is turning/engaging and there is still no spark, it is very likely your distributor has failed. (Not the cap, but the whole pickup assembly underneath the cap, that the rotor is attached to.)

i have changed out the crank sensor, and spark plugs. also i have checked power to the coil pack and still have no spark to the spark plugs. i changed the coil pack as well. i have fuel and i get gas thru the fuel rail. any help.
