Will dextromethorphan show up in a drug screen?

ok, there is speculation that at higher doses (500 + mg) of DXM, certain tests will show this as a "false positive" for PCP and/or opiates as long as 3-5 days after ingestion. Though based on experience, DXM does not show up on the basic THC/METH/COC/OPI tests, which are used in most probation departments. after taking 21 maximum strength Mucinex DM pills, (which total up to 1260 mg of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide) I tested clean 4 1/2 days after ingestion. There is ongoing debate on this matter, my experience shows evidence that it is unlikely or impossible for DXM to show up on standard drug tests.

Yes. Dxm most frequently causes false positives for PCP. I know this because I and a few of my friends have failed a drug test for PCP after using dxm and neither of us have ever done PCP. I have also read this on a few websites that I can not remember the name of. We did a little research on it because we were a little startled that we failed a drug test for PCP. While doing that research we found out that dxm can also cause false positives for opiates, althought it never happened to us.

DXM is not specifically tested for in most drug tests because is not illegal, but many drug testing company offer a drug test for DXM. Also high levels of DXM may cause false positives for PCP and/or Opiates. Followup confirmation test can and should be performed, which would be able to differentiate between DXM and PCP/ Opiates.

No. It might cause a positive for opioids though, as the reverse mirror image of Dextromethorphan is an opioid painkiller called levorphan. In case of a false positive due to DXM, further analysis of a blood or urine sample will clear up the results.

Dextromethorphan used to be able to throw two false positives on a dipstick or immunoassay "screening" test: one for PCP, the other for opiates. Over the last few years, the screening cutoff for opiates has gone way up to stop people from claiming they were shoving poppy seed bagels and not heroin. (It's almost high enough that you need to show up at your test stoned to test positive, which is actually fine with me; false negatives are a hell of a lot better than false positives.)

Now the screening test can come up false-positive for PCP but it'll be weeded out on the confirmation test.
