A third game in the Red Dead series is unlikely but not impossible. With Rockstar Games taking of the second Red Dead game, Red Dead Redemption, I doubt that they will make another. I'd say that they made one of the best games on the 360 with Redemption and now that they are working on L.A. Noire it is not likely they will make another. This does not mean they won't, because more money is always good, or that another studio might buy the rights to Red Dead and create their own game. I would say that if they are thinking of making another then we will most likely know in a year or two.

∙ 11y agoRockstar Games confirmed in the Summer of 2012 that there will indeed be a sequel to Red Dead Redemption. Unconfirmed reports have the tentative title of "Red Dead Rebellion" as the new game, with a possible release in 2014 or 2015.
Rockstar doesn't rush its sequels, yet I'd bet we'll see it in 2014. There is as of 2013 no official information on the Rockstar Games site, though we may see something at E3 this year.

The game is not part of a series even though there was a Red Dead Revolver it is not considered the second in a series and instead a spiritual successor. A spiritual successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work. The Undead Nightmare DLC, which was also released as a standalone game was actually an add on to the original game also sold on it's own game disc. There has not been an announcement except that in July 2012 Rockstar said "we don't always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won't get to them eventually. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series."
