Yeah. I think you make a hole in the bottom of each can and tie a string through it. But I'm pretty sure it depends on how you tie it. I'm trying to find out how, so at my slumber party, i can listen in to my friends.
The cans are empty, without lids. Drill a small hole in the bottom of each. Take a length of string and one end goes through the hole in one can, and tie a knot on the end, big enough to stop it pulling out. Same for the other end in the other can. Then with one person speaking into one can, the other person uses the other as an earpiece provided the STRING IS KEPT TIGHT between the 2 cans. When you have spoken you have to use your can as an earpiece so you can hear the reply, with the other person using the other can to speak into it.

Punch holes in the bottom of two tin cans, string some string through it, tie knots at both ends, and there you have a fake telephone that doesn't work in any sense. =)

you tie it to a piece of string
Take two paper cups and poke wholes through the bottom. Get some string and insert it through the bottom of the cup. Tie knots on the ends of it so it will pull through the bottom of the cup. Then make the string taught and talk into the cup. If pulled taut enough, the string will carry the vibrations of your speech, and your string telephone should work.
Boobie traps can be made many ways. String tied to cans, digging a hole and adding net and leaves over it, string over the ground, and so on.
You could use a piece of string and a paper clip.
Yes. You can demonstrate this for yourself. Use a small nail or screw to make a small hole in the bottom of each of two empty tin cans. Thread a couple of inches of one end of a ten or twenty foot string into each of the tin cans, then tie a not into the ends of the string so that the ends of the string won't come back out of the tins. With a partner hold the tins so that the string is taut between you. One of you speak into his tin whilst the other listens. You should be able to hear that the voice is carried along the string. You can google for tin cans and string for pictures and more instructions.
