Ultram, chemical name "tramadol" is a synthetic narcotic invented by a German company. The consensus is that since the chemical structure of ultram is sufficiently unlike the other opiates that are usually screened, ultram is unlikely to be detected in a routine screening for opiates. See the link below.

Ultram falls in to the category of analgesic pain relievers known as opioids and not opiates. An opioid by definition is a synthetic drug that has a very similar chemical structure as an opiate but does not metabolize in the body the same as an opiate because it is not derived from the opium poppy plant and therefore will not break down in to the urine as a morphine derivative.

A standard five panel drug test almost always looks for the presence of morphine derivatives in the urine and therefore will not detect Ultram / Tramadol. This is also the case with the opioid drug oxycodone also known as percocet / Oxycontin because the drug is synthetically made and is not directly a derivative of the opium poppy plant.

There are drug tests that can be given that will detect opioids however but the test has to be substance specific because opioids can metabolize in the body in different ways depending on their chemical makeup.

Bottom line: If you are going to be given a standard "five panel dip stick test" that is done on site and not sent to a lab you will likely not have to worry about opioidssuch as Ultram / Tramadol or even medications that contain oxycodone because those types of tests only look for the presence of opium poppy alkaloids in the urine.

I am pretty positive it does not since it is not even in the opiate family. I think they would have to do a special test probably in a lab. The 9 panel only tests for marijuana, cocaine, PCP, opiates, methamphetamine, methadone, amphetamines, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines and ultram, even though is used for pain, is not derived from any of these.

Im told that Tramadol/Ultracet/Ultram is not an actual opiate and it isnt a controlled substance, I know for a fact it doesnt show on a 5 panel nor an 8 panel, but because of the fact that they make drugtests specifically for tramadol since 10 panels were created, tell you that it shouldnt/ doesnt, I love tramadols, i use to start off with 4 50mg pills after my morning coffee, then pop 4 more, and i'd spin all day lovin it and rubbing my face all day and getting soo much work accomplished, but now im on probation, so i get u/a's but tramadol wont show up im sure, plus no matter what, it is out of your system in 3 days, and also, tramadol tests.. it's something parents buy to test their kids.. rehabs, jail ect. cant aford it because their to busy lockn up innocent potheads

Well, Ultram is an opioid painkiller and is basically the same thing as Codiene. It won't show up on a five panel drug test, but it will on a ten panel drug test.
