Woodrow Wilson's idea of a "just peace" was to contain Germany by bringing it into a new world order of democratic, independent nations. Observers called the result a compromise peace. Basically his intentions were not to punish Germany but to change their political views. However, this wasn't achieved because the compromise was only between the victors which ironically resulted in them punishing Germany by making them pay for the damages made in WW1.
