Not to sound flippant, but pretty much everywhere. Unlike WWI, which mostly took place in Europe, WW2 was fought in almost every part of the globe. Major fighting actually began in China in 1937; the Second Sino-Japanese War became linked to the conflict in Europe (begun in September 1939) when Japan attacked a number of American, British, and Dutch possessions in the Pacific in December 1941 (beginning with Pearl Harbor of Dec 7th). The Axis (Japan, Germany, and Italy, along with Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Thailand, and a number of "puppet states" set up in occupied contries) fought the Allies (The Soviet Union, the US, the British Empire, France, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, Greece, Yugoslavia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and many small states which operated in a support capacity). In addition to the main Axis-versus-Allies war, many countries took the opportunity to settle old scores with their rivals, meaning WWII absorbed a number of smaller conflicts.

Major areas of combat were Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, East Africa, the Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq), China, the Atlantic (submarine warfare), the South Pacific, the Central Pacific, Burma, Southeast Asia, Manchuria (part of China, run by the occupying Japanese), and Korea. Combat also occurred in West Africa, over the Japanese Home Islands, the Caribbean, the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, Madagascar, even in the frozen wastes of Greenland.

Only a handful of countries remained neutral: Spain, Portugal (and their colonies), Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, most of Latin America, and Iran. Most of these countries saw some combat as air raids accidentally strayed into their territory, and Iran was a major Allied supply route to Russia. South America saw only occasional naval battles, and Brazil sent troops to fight in Italy. Most of the neutral countries eventually declared war on the Axis, even if they didn't contribute troops. Many countries changed sides when overrun by the enemy: Italy, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria left the Axis when captured by Allied armies, while France and Yugoslavia fell under the control of pro-Axis puppet governments after being defeated by Germany.
