There are very few children who remain on the island year round, fewer than 100 k-12. Mackinac Island has its own school district, see the link below. Generally, students commute to school via bicycles and walking in the fall and spring, and either walk or ride snowmobiles in the winter.

You should do it if you don't have a car to drive, or someone to drive for you. If you can reach school by walking, you can do that, or simply ride your bike. (Which I prefer.) And 1 more reason is, riding your bike is fun! (Unless it's winter!)
