It sounds like you have caught a case of the flu and would be wise to see a doctor, especially with this swine flu thing happening.
It would be a "butterfly rash" which could be a sign of lupus. Unless you have pre existing conditions, it's unlikely that it is lupus. It could also be Fifth Disease, which is much more common in children than adults. A fever and rash on the cheeks are followed by flu-like symptoms. It could also be a plain old allergic reaction.
Flu does lead to all these symptons.
If the symptoms you have are flu-like and there are red, itchy bumps all over your back and stomach, it could be chickenpox. Chickenpox usually starts out as a cold, and this is known as the incubation period when you are most contagious. After a few days, spots begin to develop over the trunk of the body, limbs and sometimes on the face. The spots develop a fluid-like center and are very itchy. You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen to reduce fever and apply calamine lotion to the spots to relieve itching.
If you have cold or flu symptoms with the rash, it could be swine flu. It would appear to be an infectious process since both of you have it. Contact your health care professional for advice. If it is swine flu and you are a candidate for anti-viral Tamiflu, it must be given within the first 48 hours of symptoms to have maximum efficacy. Fever with rash should always be reported to your doctor.
It's not common for poison oak to cause flu symptoms. However, it can cause allergy symptoms which can appear similar to those of a flu.

At first a person could have flu-like symptoms, like a very high fever, headaches, fatigue, and backaches. After that a rash develops, mostly on the face, legs, and arms. The red marks start to fill with pus and then they crust over. then scabs come and fall off after about three to four weeks. It is very contagious particularly during the first week of the rash.
